Basketball New Zealand Scholarships Up for Grabs

12 August 2007

The New Zealand Basketball Foundation is calling for applications for the 2007 Keith Mair and Caroline Grey coaching scholarships.

The scholarships, honouring two outstanding contributors to basketball in this country, are designed to expose up-and-coming coaches to international and professional-level basketball in New Zealand.

The coach awarded the 2007 Keith Mair Scholarship for men will be invited to attend Harvey Norman NZ Breakers training in the lead-up to an Australian NBL game in October. The scholarship holder will have the opportunity to attend Breakers training and observe the clubs programme for four days prior to their nominated game.

The successful recipient of the 2007 Caroline Grey Scholarship for women will have the opportunity to attend the NZ Tall Ferns training camp in Dunedin from September 23-25 and the first game of the 2007 FIBA Oceania Championships between Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday, September 26.

Scholarship recipients will be asked to write a report about their experiences for publication on the Basketball New Zealand website. Applicants must come with the endorsement of a BBNZ-affiliated association and should be working in Basketball New Zealands development and/or performance programmes.
Potential national team coaches will be given preference in the scholarship selection process.

Scholarship candidates should submit a 200-word outline of their individual coaching development plan as well as a current basketball CV.

Send your applications to BBNZ coach & player development manager Ollie Dudfield, PO Box 6052, Marion Square, Wellington or dudfield@basketball.org.nz .

Applications close on Friday, August 31. Late applications will not be considered.

The NZ Basketball Foundation is an independently constituted body, sanctioned by Basketball New Zealand. The foundation was formed to raise and establish a substantial investment fund, which will be used to provide financial assistance for the game of basketball throughout New Zealand.
